Korea LIBERATION DAY Statement

Today, August 15th, is known as Liberation Day in Korea. It marks the end of the brutal and violent Japanese occupation of Korea in 1945 after decades of resistance from the Korean people. It is a bittersweet commemoration because of the immediate and continued U.S. occupation and division of the peninsula that followed Korea’s liberation from Japan.
Since 1945, Korea has faced multiple U.S.-backed dictators, indiscriminate war crimes, martial law, and more. During the Korean War, more bombs and napalm were dropped on the northern Korean peninsula than the entire Pacific theater during World War II, and the U.S. killed millions. The U.S. continues to occupy the peninsula with 28,500 troops stationed across more than 70 military bases.
Despite Japanese colonialism and U.S. occupation, the Korean people continue to resist. We are proud that Meredith Aby from the Anti-War Action Network Steering Committee is representing AWAN during this week’s Jaju Solidarity Brigade in South Korea. This Korean Liberation Day, as people across Korea protest outside Camp Humphreys, the largest U.S. base in the world, we honor the resilience of the Korean people and stand in solidarity with their fight against U.S. occupation!

Nadia Topete SOLIDARITY Statement
July 2026
On the 1st of July, Nadia Topete, a chicana immigrant rights activist, was issued a second subpoena, ordering her to appear before a Grand Jury on Wednesday, July 8th by law enforcement following a visit by the FBI on May 20th. Speaking before a Federal Grand Jury without a lawyer or a witness could put Nadia at risk of being treated unfairly and facing unknown jail time.
The continuous attempts of intimidation comes after the Anti-ICE uprising in Los Angeles gained national attention last summer, where several activists have been targeted by law enforcement following orders from the Trump administration and the DOJ.
This is a clear attempt to silence and intimidate anti-ICE organizers in Los Angeles. Nadia is not a criminal, she simply organized to protect her community and the people of Aztlán and we must protect those who protect others.The Tucson Anti-War Committee stands in solidarity with Nadia Topete and we say no to grand jury repression.
We invite everyone to call in support of Nadia on Monday, July 6th to demand the investigation of immigrant rights activists be shut down!

Cuba SOLIDARITY Statement
July 2026
Tucson Anti-War Committee stands with Cuba! July 26th marked the anniversary of the launch of the Cuban Revolution, when the Cuban people rose up to kick out the U.S.-backed military dictatorship, the mafia-backed casinos, and large landowners whose wealth was rooted in exploitation and slavery.
Cuba is under attack by Trump and U.S. imperialism. Trump has threatened sanctions on any other country or company selling oil to Cuba, imposed an embargo that blocks critical energy shipments, and is now making very serious threats of a military invasion. Cubans are dying every day in hospitals due to the energy crisis caused by Trump and the U.S.
For decades the American empire has harassed, undermined, and attacked Cuba in retaliation for the Cuban people kicking out their oppressors. Failed invasions and failed assassination attempts stain the historical record and show the fumbling brutality of American imperialism. The newest escalations are part of a long series of efforts seeking to undo the Cuban Revolution and the liberation of the Cuban people. Trump’s vision is one which would see the people of Cuba immiserated and deprived of sovereignty so that the island can be made into a playground for the wealthy. Cubans have long stood together in opposition to U.S. imperialism, and the Tucson Anti-War Committee stands with them.

Palestine “CEASEFIRE” Statement
January 2026
Since the start of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in October 2025, over 460 Palestinians have been killed and over 1200 wounded by Israeli attacks in Gaza. Israel has refused to honor their obligations of the ceasefire by continuing their illegal occupation of Gaza and denying aid and passage through the Rafah crossing. Additionally, Israel’s escalation in the West Bank has reached its highest level of attacks in the last 20 years, with 20% of the martyrs being children. Right-wing Zionist settlers wreak violence on homes, schools, crops, and entire villages in the West Bank with the approval and support of Israel’s police and military.
Israel and Netanyahu continue to violate this agreement, including opposing the start of the second phase. Ministers in Israel’s government continue to call for the wholesale annexation of Gaza & the West Bank and the expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland. Trump’s proposed “Peace Board” governance would also deny Palestinians self-determination and subject them to a new form of international occupation.
None of the promises offered by these imperialist powers should be trusted. The ceasefire agreement has been violated over and over again by Israel, and Palestinians face ongoing violence from the murderous military as well as terroristic settlers in the West bank. Tucson Anti-War Committee remains steadfast in our commitment for a free Palestine and end to the U.S.-backed Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people. We recognize that the tentacles attacking Palestine, Venezuela, Iran, Lebanon, and more belong to the same monster that is U.S. imperialism.
